Poster and exhibition pamphlet for Canadian born artist Grace Papineau-Couture’s exhibition at Gallery 4009. The designs use a numbered reading order, inspired by Grace’s process driven and time-based works to create a self-referential visual hierarchy. Content was categorized into categories like titles, names, and numbers which were each presented in a similar, but slightly different font. The resulting effect is a rich typographic patchwork that leans into vernacular sensibilities within a structured grid.

Gallery 4009 was a short-lived apartment gallery co-run by Carter Teranes and Emily Swenson as a way to explore the role of graphic design in the curation and presentation of art, specifically within a domestic setting. As designers acting as curators, each of the two exhibitions run made use of supplemental graphic materials in dialogue with the artist’s body of work.
